Making a Difference Where It Matters

As a local Australian business, we aim to do what we can to help out in the community. Our goal as a company is to support local charities and causes with both cash donations as well as our time. And with this year being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and especially now as we head into the festive season, there are a lot of opportunities for us to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate.

Bao Buns for Good

Our main initiative is called “Soup Day” which started during one winter a couple of years ago. The creative name “Soup Day” reflected soup as being a regular feature on the lunch menu, but it has since diversified be any dish the cook of the hour desires to create.

Here’s how it works:

  • We get together in our office once a month, generally on a Wednesday.
  • One team member is responsible for cooking a dish of their choice to serve to everyone.
  • Participants donate $5 each with the money collected from the year to be used towards a good cause.

We recently had our teammate Alex whip up some seriously delicious bao buns that had us in absolute awe of his insane culinary skills. Another nice part of Soup Day is the ability to learn more about the different cultures through food. We have staff from more than 11 counties working at Spenda and often get treated with local dishes from the cooks home country.

The bar has been set high this year with last week’s extraordinary Bao Buns!

Helping Our Community
The donations raised from “Soup Day” go towards some great causes and over the past year we have delivered monetary and product collections for:

  • Tents and Food Hampers for H.A.N.D Homeless at Risk, Needy and Disadvantaged.
  • Winter socks and Beanies for Perth Homeless Support Group Inc.
  • Backpacks and Christmas presents for Care Bags – Because Children in Care Matter.
Spreading Christmas cheer for Care Bags

We have also organised a Dinner Squad for the Ronald McDonald House Perth (MVRC) where some of our amazing Christmas elves got together to help prepare and serve some delicious food to the homeless and spread some Christmas cheer within the community. It was time well spent!

Even though we are working remotely, it doesn’t mean that we can’t come together to help support those in need and give back to our community – and do some team bonding in the process.

In 2021 we will be looking to continue our charity work so stay tuned across our social media for more.
